No movement in October house prices: Halifax
LONDON - The latest report from Halifax, the UK’s biggest mortgage lender says that house prices did not show any movement in October although the activity in the housing market increased in the month.

Mortgage approvals soar in September
LONDON - There was more good news on the horizon in the UK housing market as the Bank of England figures for the month of September show that the number of mortgage approvals has risen to the highest level since June 2004.

FSA to review mortgage market regulations in December
LONDON - The Financial Services Authority has said that it will be undertaking a major review of the way the mortgage market has benefited form its regulation. The City watchdog had started regulating the mortgage market from October 31 last year.

There is substantial evidence that the property market lm Britain has stabilised. Approvals of mortgage has gone up by 17 per cent in September compared with the same period last year, according to the British Bankers' Association (BBA).

Those wanting a cheap fixed-rate mortgage deal should either go for it now or wait till sometime in the future when the rates become attractive again. The swap rates, the rates at which financial institutions lend to each other, are inching up. These heavily influence the interest rates of the lenders.

Property market recovering as mortgage lending goes up to 5 billion pounds
Underlying mortgage lending rose to 5 billion pounds in September, compared with 4.4 billion pounds in August, according to the British Bankers' Association (BBA), clearly indicating that the property markets in Britain are on way to stabilisation.

Housing proves to be unaffordable for young households
A growing number of young households do not have enough money to buy even the cheapest properties in their area, but they are not entitled to housing benefits because of their high earnings. This was revealed by a study carried out for the Joseph Rowntree Foundation. It has found that over one million young households in the UK can't afford the cheapest local houses.

House price inflation touches a nine year low
The house price inflation ebbed to its nine year low when the percentage plummeted from 4 per cent in July 2005 to 2.8 per cent in August 2005. The Office for the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) clarified that the annual gain was the weakest since it touched 1.1 percent in the second quarter of 1996.

A new mortgage scheme complying with the sharia law has come into being in the U.K. targeted at Islamic investors. The new buy-to-let mortgage is designed by Bristol & West and the Arab Banking Corporation.
