The Glastonbury festival starts on June 26th and many of those going will be storing valuables in their cars, not realising that if stolen their car insurance may not give them enough cover.
According to uSwitch.com, over 60% of car insurance providers only provide £100 of cover for car contents - not much when you think of all the Sat Navs, ipod’s, designer sunglasses and mobile phones no doubt left in cars at Glastonbury.
The £100 cover under the car insurance is for ALL the car contents, not individual items.
Moving the valuables into a tent is not a good idea either as home insurance policies won’t cover items away from home stored in an unlocked tent.
Insurance expert at uSwitch, Mark Monteiro, said ‘Going to a music festival should be a fun experience and reading insurance documents probably isn’t high on the list of preparation priorities. However, an event such as Glastonbury creates an insurance minefield for both providers and policy holders.’
He added ‘Our advice to motorists is to check details before getting in the car, that way you can enjoy the music with peace of mind. It’s always worth contacting you insurance provider to let them know what you’re up to as they may be able to help you out.’
To help you compare car insurance or home insurance offerings from providers you may find it helpful to use quote comparison websites, such as uSwitch.com, Gocompare.com or moneysupermarket.com.
All enable you to quickly get a range of insurance quotes from different providers and then easily compare the cover offered for what price.
