An luxury and exotic holiday abroad in a classy resort by the sea, doesn’t that sound great? Well, it sure does and that is what people seem to be doing.
The Office of National Statistics (ONS) released figures that clearly showed an escalation in the number of overseas trips taken by residents in the past year 2004, along with a conspicuous hike in the expenditures incurred during these holidays abroad.
An increase of four per cent was recorded in the number of trips taken abroad since February 2004. The ONS survey also hinted at the adventurous nature of the current traveller, what with trips to the US recording a 16 per cent rise and holidays to the rest of the world also soaring by 25%. In contrast to this, visits to parts of Western Europe registered a one-percent fall.
What’s more, these trips also saw expenses leap by at least five percent in the past year, revealing that travellers were not compromising on their holidays abroad. Increased expenses also meant increased need for borrowing, and travellers were ready to venture out on a holiday with the help of a loan.
Moreover, with the Royal Bank of Scotland strengthening the pound in comparison to other currencies abroad, a holiday in Europe has now become far more expensive than a trip to far-flung destinations, which offers more value-for money and also lets the traveller enjoy more purchasing power.
