Cardiff student found dead in Thai resort, police suspect rape
A 21-year-old British student, Katherine Horton, was found dead in the sea off the beach of Koh Samui, the Thai holiday island Monday. Police suspect she was subjected to sexual assault. She was hit with a blunt object on her head, which would have resulted in her instant death, the police added.

Dubai's ruler Sheikh Maktoum dies in Australia
Prime minister and vice president of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid al-Maktoum, died in Australia early Wednesday, according to the government. Sheikh Maktoum, who is also the ruler of Dubai, had suffered heart problems. He was 62.

Singapore economy on a strong growth path
Singapore's economy grew 5.7 per cent in 2005, and prime minister Lee Hsien Loong expects the growth to be in the range of 5 per cent for 2006 too.

NHS patients can select hospitals of their choice now
Starting Monday, patients covered under the National Health Scheme have the right to chose the hospital where they would like to have non-emergency hospital treatment. They will be able to pick up from at least four hospitals or clinics upon referral by their family doctor.
