Debt write-off ratified by finance ministers and IMF
WASHINGTON - Finance Ministers from across the globe have reached a historic agreement that wipes out the debt of eighteen of the poorest countries in the world. The deal to cancel out around $55 billion debt had been initially inked at the Gleneagles summit of the Group of Eight in July.

Royal Bank is unfazed despite rise in arrears
Following closely on the heels of a couple of banks’ announcements of an upsurge in their bad debts, the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) also registered a marked increase in its credit card arrears, raising apprehensions of the bank falling prey to the scaling borrowing tendencies in the country that was leading to increased cases of default.

Number of women bankrupts almost double in 5 years: Research
A recent study by an accountants firm has shown a jump of more than 40% in the number of women bankrupts in the past five years. The accountants firm Wilkins Kennedy, conducted the research and analysed over 800 bankrupt cases across England and Wales. An unexpected 42% of these bankrutcy cases were women.

Students fret over daily cash crunch and disregard graduating debt
A research conducted by Dr. Adrian Scott from the University of Bath divulged that students were more worried about their daily spending money or ‘pocket money’, than their huge amounts in debt. The report made quite an interesting revelation that students were getting so inured to taking debts that debts had become quite ‘manageable’ for them.

Bankruptcy law loophole lets off offenders
The Enterprise Act, which comes into effect on April 1, 2004, has a loophole that enables false bankruptcy offenders to get off without punishment, legal experts have said. According to Department of Trade and Industry estimates, between seven to 12 per cent bankruptcies are false.

Tunnel on its way to debt renegotiation talks
Eurotunnel heads have called a meeting today to begin talks about the restructuring of the Channel Tunnel operator's massive £6.2billion debt. Talks had so far been delayed because of the on going dispute regarding the £13.2million advisory fees claimed by the creditors.
