Get the cheapest holiday travel money and don’t be fooled by foreign exchange providers offering ‘0% commission’ or ‘no commission.’

Currency card holiday travel moneyAccording to FairFX.com, holidaymakers could save money just by buying their holiday travel money from the cheapest provider.

Some £120 for every £1,000 of holiday money could be wasted as it is exchanged.

In contrast, prepaid currency cards could give an extra $209 or €143 for every £1,000 spent.

Chief Executive of FairFX.com, Stephen Heath, said, ‘A prepaid card will give travellers not only the best rate available, but also added piece of mind.’

MoneyHighStreet recently undertook a review of prepaid currency cards to assess whether they are the best option for travel money, which you might find useful.

Whilst some 44% of Britons believe that ‘0% commission’ means the travel money service is free, there is a cost and it is reflected in the exchange rate used - how many Euros or Dollars or other currencies are received for each £1 exchanged.

The true cost varies, from 3-5% at High Street providers to up to a staggering 15% at some regional airports.

Heath commented ”No one likes to be fooled into buying something only to find out too late that they paid over the odds. ‘0%’ may well have become the standard advertising tag for currency providers, but savvy holidaymakers still have time to make the most of their holiday budget this summer.’
