LONDON: Virgin Money Credit Cards made quite an interesting revelation in its ‘Love or Football’ survey, incredibly, British men were found to be doting on their partners twice as much as on their favourite game, football; this affection and attention also meant hefty expenses being paid out by credit cards.
British men were found feeding their passion for their lovers with an average £805 in a single year whereas their love for football seemed to fall next in line, with £482 being spent on their clubs.
John Franklin, of Virgin Money Credit Card said that it was only in the past that football followers were found to be more passionate about their team than their lovers. It was a different story now as British men were spotted at the local flower shops or the bistro more often than on the football ground.
It was also brought to notice that about 70 per cent of these men paid most of the expenses incurred on their partner through credit cards on which they were paying lofty interest rates as well.
Franklin said that the British men ought to consider cards with zero percent balance transfer deals if they wanted to keep their ‘better halves in the manner to which they've become accustomed’.
However, all men were found to vary in their generosity levels, with men in the South West spending the maximum, a substantial £726 extra on their lover, and the football crazy North East residents expending £216 more on their football teams than on their lovers.
Yorkshire men were different as they were found to be the least extravagant as regards to their girlfriends, each spending an average of £613 and London and North West Residents frittered the least in pursuing their football teams.
