Danielle Bramley, an eight-year old child, was rather delighted and taken by surprise when she received something unusual through the post on a day which was neither her birthday nor Christmas.
The envelope had her name on it and that definitely did excite her! But, when she slit open the cover, what she saw was in every sense shocking! Barclaycard, the credit card provider had sent a credit card application form to this little immature girl, with a credit limit of £2,000.
Understandably, Ian Bramley, Danielle's father was infuriated on learning what had happened, being extremely disturbed as to how the company had managed to obtain his daughter’s details. Appalled at the company issuing a credit form to an immature, underage child, he was also worried about Danielle’s personal details being misused by somebody else.
Meanwhile, Janice Allen of the National Consumer Council agreed and stated that giving credit to anyone under 18 was absolutely illegal.
Barclaycard, however, did apologize to Danielle’s parents for the mistake and the harassment caused, calling it an ‘isolated incident’.
