The search engine giant, Google Inc. is all set to create around 600 new jobs in its European headquarters located in Dublin. With this, the total number of Google staff in Ireland would go up to 1400.
The company has signed a lease for office space of 9,300 square metres in the Irish capital.
Ireland has become a favourite destination for lot of US technology companies. Dell and Intel have already set up their shop there. Advantages include English speaking population and availability of well trained workers. Also, Ireland charges a corporate tax rate of only12.5 per cent as against 35 per cent in the US.
The staff in Google’s Dublin office was hired from several countries across Europe. Established in 2003, it is Google’s largest base outside the United States. Besides, there is also lot of talent available from various excellent institutions in Europe.
As of now, most are employed in vertical sectors ranging from vehicles to technology and specific strategic areas including wireless services. However, Google is looking to hire staff in human resources section now.
The company's Dublin office, established in 2003, supports its European, African and Middle Eastern operations and is also Google's largest base outside the United States.
John Herlihy, Google's European director of online sales and operation, said: “Basing our European operations here in Dublin has proven to be a great decision. We have found that the quality of the Irish work force has enabled us to improve our products and services in a way that has proven to be highly beneficial for our customers, both users and advertisers.”
Micheal Martin, Ireland's minister for enterprise, trade and employment, refused to divulge details about financial aid being provided by the Investment and Development Agency, which lures overseas companies to Ireland.
Martin added: “This decision yet again demonstrates that Ireland is by far and away the primary location for the digital media industry in Europe, and second only to Silicon Valley in the U.S.”
