BA reports improvement in passenger traffic
British Airways said its passenger traffic in December rose 4.7 per cent compared to December 2004. The airline, Europe's third-largest, said in a statement to the stock exchange Thursday its load factor rose to 74.2 per cent from 72.7 per cent.

Next expects better profits, but cautious about 2006
High street fashion retailer Next Plc said it expects to better its annual profit forecasts. The company said new stores it added and a good holiday season sales have helped it and it hopes to have full-year profit before tax in the range of 435 million to 450 million pounds, compared with analysts' prediction of 420 million pounds.

Cookson sells its SCS unit, meets divestment target a year earlier
Industrial materials company Cookson Group Plc. sold its electronics business SCS for 32.3 million pounds, beating a deadline for divesting its non-core assets by nearly a year. The company had said last year that it intended to raise 100 million pounds by exiting such businesses by end-2006.

Royal Mail loses 350-year monopoly status
